Town Tavern in Royal Oak, MI
Sunday, July 6, 2008 at 12:14AM After a few mix ups on what our plans were for this July evening, we finally decided to pick up our prince (only boy out of 6 children) in Royal Oak and take him to a healthy dinner. We parked the car and fed the money into the meters. A short stroll along a street crowded with outside tables took us by many cafes. We settled on having dinner at the Town Tavern.
Once inside we found a clean, sophisticated SMOKE FREE establishment. What bliss to sink into the chocolate velvet booth bench and take in the contemporary yet traditional decor with dark wood, chrome and frosted ribbed glass partitions. The softly back lit bar area seemed like a perfect spot to meet for a drink.
The two items that I was most impressed with were: Tavern's Caribbean Martini for $9. A refreshing shaken mix of Vanilla Stoli, Malibu Rum and pineapple juice. The kind of drink that could get you in a whole lot of trouble if you ordered more than one, but I had the fortitude to resist that foolishness. Definitely the kind of beverage that could take the drinker straight to Bali High, even if you don't like liquor. The second stand out of the night was the Parmesan Truffle French Fries.Oh, la,la! They perfectly cook up some skinny cut fries and toss them with truffle oil, parmesan and some parsley for color. These could get a girl into some trouble also. Not the wake up missing your panties trouble, but the buttoning your jeans around your overstuffed tummy kind.
The service was excellent even though the place was quite busy. While the Tavern wasn't exactly a bargain hunters paradise, it was respectably priced considering the quality of the overall experience. After dinner we were able to soak in the summer evening sights and sounds, window shopping and people (and dog) watching. In spite of having to play the "where's Rob?" game a few times ( my husband walks to the tune of his own drummer) we had a superb evening out.

Glad to see that dad still persists with his "Rainman" routine. I am surprised you took your little prince to dinner at a location where you all would be prone to run into that self-involved bitchface.
where's waldo, where's rob? always a question upon departure to the next haunt
Amen sister, you're hearing me.
